I’ve been grading briefs for the Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition for the past week and a half, and last night I judged one of the rounds. I competed twice in this competition during law school and some of my fondest memories are from this competition. Needless to say, I’m always eager to help out when I’m asked (which happens often .

The other day NPR played a very interesting music interlude during All Things Considered, so I went to look up the name of the piece (you do know how to do that, right?). Turns out the artist was Bombay Dub Orchestra and the song was Strange Constellations. It’s a great piece, so I went ahead and downloaded it, along with several others, from Amazon. They’ve got some good stuff – I recommend checking them out if you’re into downtempo/chillout music. Also, it looks like the third album from Conjure One is (finally) on the horizon. The first two were fantastic, so I’ve got high hopes for the new album.

Finally, although I’ve had a voracious appetite for everything related to this year’s presidential election, I’ve kept all of that separate from my blog. My one exception to that practice will be just to say, it sometimes feels like this, doesn’t it?

And you know, it sure is tricky to come up with descriptive titles for these posts that span multiple categories!

I’m very happy to say that that bar exam has come and gone. All it took was a healthy laptop, three days’ worth of packed lunches, and nerves of steel. With the bar now behind me, I’ve never been so happy at the idea of having time to run errands and do tasks around the apartment.

This morning, I started browsing through some of my Calvin and Hobbes books, for no particular reason other than the fact that I HAVE THE TIME. Got some great laughs, too. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Calvin and Hobbes, or who know of it but have never read any of the strips, I highly recommend stopping at amazon.com and purchasing a book or two – you won’t regret it. Calvin and Hobbes is probably one of the most insightful and creative comic strips conceived, and it’s a shame (yet somehow appropriate) that the creator decided to step down due to his aversion to commercialism and licensing.

Frankly, if anyone who created anything stuck to his/her principles as much as Bill Watterson did when it came to their creations, there would probably be no such thing as jumping the shark. Would Star Trek (either as a television series, movie, or both) still be alive and kicking today had the writers/producers stuck to their principles and refused to acknowledge that Jeri Ryan in skin-tight spandex was really what Star Trek needed? Would we have been subjected to the god-awful last 2-3 seasons of X-Files if the writers could had actually tried to create new story arcs and interesting characters rather give in to the demands of 20th Century Fox? Do I even need to begin a rant on Seinfeld?

“I don’t need to compromise my principles, because they don’t have the slightest bearing on what happens to me anyway.” So true.

On Tuesday I officially began studying for the Washington State Bar Exam. Just typing that sentence makes me shudder! So far we’ve started off somewhat lenient, but things begin picking up in the next day or two (3-5 essays a day, along with outlines and readings — and I thought school was over!)

I successfully moved into my new apartment this past weekend. I’ve managed to unpack most of the boxes and it’s already beginning to feel like home, which is good. I’ll need to get some new furniture in the coming weeks to make it a little homier, but for right now, I have to say I’m really pleased with the place and quite comfortable. Here’s to Queen Anne!

Happy Fourth of July weekend everyone. Non-Americans visiting this site; sorry, it’s just another run of the mill weekend.

As of 5 minutes ago, I officially (well, most likely) finished my source & cite check duties for my first article as R&T editor. It was quite a process; I ended up doing a lot more work than I thought I’d have to. I ended up tracking down quite a few specific pinpoint cites in dozens of cases, and adding parallel citations to just about all of the cites. Definitely time consuming. But it’s over!

My model aircraft collection seems to be reaching a plateau. I’ve collected 35 pieces of 1:400 UAL planes. There are a few pieces here and there that I’d “like” to collect, but nothing major. Of course, the manufacturers continue to tease us with pictures of new releases, so that should permit the UAL collection to grow, albeit at a snail’s pace. Wonder what airline I’ll move on to next… or if I even should!

For those of you who are interested, you can view the various models I have here (sorry, no pics, it’s just a forum).

Also, I recently completed United’s DC-8 line. It’s sweet. Have a look:

Incidentally, some of may have noticed that comments are no longer enabled for unregistered users. I turned them off because frankly, the comment spam was becoming unbearable, even with mt-blacklist. Plus, since I practically never get any comments, I figured this wouldn’t really piss anyone off too much. Anyway, that’s that.

IT’S BBQ TIME!
