Cool people collect planes

Went to the Seattle Airline Collectibles Show today. Almost completely forgot about it, but thanks to a presciently-made Outlook reminder, I was able to stop by and pick up a Gemini United Express CRJ-700. I’ve apparently managed to assemble quite the United Express fleet. Haven’t really done so intentionally – I collect all the United Airlines models that the manufacturers release, and it just so happens that Gemini and Herpa have been pretty United Express happy lately. Anyway, as for my larger collection, the list just keeps growing…

This probably seems like a slightly odd hobby to most of you, but then again, aren’t most hobbies? I’ve been at this hobby for about three and a half years now – I received my first model in January 2005. It was a United L-1011 from Dragon Wings ordered from eBay. This is definitely an addictive little hobby, and as you might imagine, there’s a very active online community of collectors. Some of the more heavily populated sites are:

  1. 400 Scale Hangar
  2. DA.C and
  3. Wings900

I’m sure there are more, but I think those are the big three, with 400SH and DAC probably being the most active.
