Dude, I got a Dell

Inspiron 530sI don’t think Dell uses that slogan any longer, but it works! A couple weeks ago, I received a shiny, new Dell Inspiron 530s in the mail. She is a beaut! Without going into gory details, I will declare that this computer is monumentally faster than my old computer, much quieter, about half the size (hence the “s,” for slim), and just downright cool. And all gotten at a very reasonable price. Although it was (and probably still would be) personally rewarding to put together my own computer, I have neither the time nor the energy anymore!

Oh and, since I channeled him in this post, I might as well provide a link to the latest news on the Dell dude.

On an unrelated note, I recently purchased an HP Photosmart D7460 from Office Depot. At one point, the salesperson told me that in order to install the printer on my computers, I would need to purchase a USB 2.0 cord to hook it up. Huh? Does that seem a little odd to anyone? Why would you need a cable to install a wireless printer? Despite my incessant questioning and protestations, the salesperson stuck to his guns and insisted that I needed to purchase a USB cable in order to install the printer for the first time. I was so shocked by this that I asked other salespeople in the store to see if I could catch this guy lying straight to my face, but they all gave me the same story. So, I relented and purchased the dang thing.

You know where this is going of course. It turns I did not need the cable. Those punks. I returned the USB cord faster than you can say “rip off.”

The moral of the story: If you’re thinking of getting a wireless network printer, you don’t need a USB cord to set it up on your computer. The more important moral of the story: Common sense is not so common.

Live long and prosper!
