I think this qualifies as my longest blog-posting drought of all time. Well, I’m happy to say, I’m (sort of) back, and back in style. Yes, the blog may look the same, but you have no idea what sort of tweaks and upgrades have gone on under the hood. That’s right, I’ve just updated to the latest version of WordPress, and I’m ready to rock. Funnily enough, despite my unholy devotion to detail, I managed to take several wrong steps along the somewhat cumbersome process of updating. My foibles included, inter alia, forgetting to deactivate my plugins, and crashing Firefox as I was uploading the new folders. Fortunately, all turned out well in the end.
What finally motivated me to update my blog, you ask? Well, I decided I wanted to add an entry to notify the world that, as of this evening, I have switched the default search engine in Firefox to… Microsoft Live Search! That’s right, I’ve committed the ultimate internet heresy, the most unspeakable act, the internet equivalent of “the switch“! What possessed me to defect to the dark side, to cast away all rational thought and strap on a meat jacket as I propel myself into the lions den?
I guess I just wanted to try something different.
I’ve been using Google forever. Yeah, it’s a good search engine. But there are others. Like Yahoo. And Ask.com. And Live Search. And there are others. So, I guess I just wanted to try something a little different for the time being. I may (fine, will) end up going back to Google at some point, since it is so good and all, but for now, I feel refreshed and reinvigorated. Change is good.
What’s new with me? This and that. I’ve been having a lot of fun with the Garvin nuvi 200. I’m kinda sorta seriously looking at the Netgear EVA8000 digital media receiver (with H.264 support!). I’ve decided 7-zip is much cooler than WinRAR. Dbpoweramp continues to be my favorite digital music converter (though I can’t seem to get TAK working with the CLI encoder) and Winamp 5.51 is amazing. Gotta love being a geek.
That’s it. Happy New Year!
