Fly Away

No, not one of my predetermined pump-up songs for Nationals last week (which of course, I forgot to bring with me).

I love aviation. I love airplanes, and I love flying. I do as much as I can to immerse myself in this wonderful hobbyist world: I collect diecast airline models, books, and posters. There’s always been something missing, however; actually trying my hand at flying.

That changed a week ago, after I installed Microsoft Flight Simulator, purchased a new video card, and a joystick. I’m now desperately trying to learn the intricacies of straight and level flight, trimming, climbs and descents, and, of course, looking spiffy in my uber-cool pilot sunglasses. My ultimate goal is to reach a level of proficiency where I feel comfortable enough to join up with the gang at United Virtual (my favorite airline, no less) and fly some Saturday scrambles.

Wish me luck!

Thomas Tang 2005 : Success all around!

Jason and I placed second in the nation out of twelve teams, from six different regions. We also won the best brief award. Catherine and Gail had the third best brief.

It doesn’t get any better than this.

Still Alive
